NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – LUIS FELIPE POSAS-VILLAFRANCA (“POSAS-VILLAFRANCA”) , age 27, a Honduran national, was indicted on August 13, 2026, for being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(5)(A) and 924(a)(8), announced United States Attorney David I. Courcelle. According to the indictment, on or about June 22, 2026, POSAS-VILLAFRANCA , an alien who is illegally and unlawfully present in the United States, possessed a Taurus Model G3XL nine-millimeter caliber handgun. If convicted, POSAS-VILLAFRANCA faces a maximum penalty of up to 15 years of imprisonment, up to a $250,000 fine, up to 3 years of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee. U.S. Attorney Courcelle reiterated that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. U.S. Attorney Courcelle praised the work of the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in investigating this matter. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Shannon Kippers and Lorcan Connick of the General Crimes Unit are handling the prosecution. This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. * * *
